Author Guidelines

Focus and scope of the journal
The Pharmaceutical Journal of Sri Lanka is the official scientific publication of the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka and is published once a year since 2010. It aims at providing an avenue for the publications by the pharmacy undergraduates, university academics, pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientist of Sri Lanka and the South Asian region. The journal accepts original research work either as a full research paper or as a short communication, reviews, brief reports, special communications, commentaries, and other categories of articles related to pharmaceutical sciences. Papers are accepted on the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere.

Review process
The Journal is peer reviewed. Each article received is de-identified by the editor and is sent to two independent reviewers for reviewing. The reviewers are selected by the editor considering their expertise in pharmacy. Once the comments are received they are de-identified and sent to corresponding author for corrections. Hence this is a double blinded process. The editor takes the final decision on publication. The peer review process ranges from 2 weeks – 2 months approximately. There is no charge for publication. No charge for subscription. The journal is published through funds of the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka obtained through sponsorships. We are willing to open access to published articles online.

Preparation of the manuscript
Manuscripts should be concisely written and conform to the following general requirements. Manuscripts not conforming to any of the following guidelines will be reverted back to the corresponding author without review.

1. Manuscripts should be written in American or British English (but not both).
2. Manuscripts should be typewritten, double spaced, in A4 sized sheets. There should be no line space between titles and paragraphs that follow. One line space should be kept between each paragraph.
3. Pages should be numbered consecutively starting with the title page and the contents arranged in the following order. Title page, abstract, key words, introduction, methods, results, discussion, acknowledgements, references, tables and figures.
4. The title page should contain the title of the paper, author names with initials, address and author of correspondence.
5. The text (excluding references, tables and figures) should be limited to 4000 words.
6. Tables and/or figures should be limited to a maximum of five. Figures, tables or illustrations should be black and white.
7. The abstract should be structured and should include the, purpose, methods, results and conclusion. Abstracts for articles are limited to 250 words.
8. Three to six key words should be supplied for each article.
9. All tables and figures should be numbered in the order of their citation in the text. Include a title for each table and figure (a brief phrase, preferably no longer than 10 to 15 words).
10. References should be written in the Vancouver style. Number references in the order in which they are first cited in the text. Use Arabic numerals within parentheses after the punctuation.

11. A statement indicating that all authors agree to this submission should be included in the covering letter.
12. All research including human participants or animals should submit a copy of the ethics approval obtained.
13. Authors must include a statement in the manuscript indicating conflicts of interest.

Manuscript submission
All manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor using the above email address before the stipulated deadline. Failing to respond for editorial queries or failing to submit corrections before the dates specified will be considered as a withdrawal of manuscript.

Initial editorial decision
The Editor will make a decision based on the comment and recommendations made by the reviewers. One of the following decisions will be made:

• accept as received;
• accept after satisfactory completion of minor amendments
• reconsider after major revision
• reject

Currently the journal accepts only a maximum of 10 articles/ communications per issue. Hence papers will be prioritized based on the novelty, scientific merit and relevance to the field of Pharmacy. The Editors decision will be final.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2. Any third-party-owned materials used have been identified with appropriate credit lines, and permission obtained from the copyright holder for all formats of the journal.
3. All authors have given permission to be listed on the submitted paper and satisfy the authorship guidelines.
4. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
5. All DOIs for the references have been provided, when available.
6. Tables and figures are all cited in the text. Tables are included within the text document, whilst figure files are uploaded as supplementary files.
7. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal. Every effort has been made to ensure that author names are removed from the manuscript (following the instructions to ensure blind peer review).
